Phone Numbers & Connections
Phone Numbers & Connections
Open the Phone tab of your chatbot and click Manage in the number box. You can connect a number three ways: buy a new one, forward an existing number, or connect your own SIP trunk.
Buy a new number
- Pick a country. The list is loaded live from the telephony provider; common choices include Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands, the US, the UK, France, Spain, and Italy.
- Optionally filter by digits the number should contain.
- Click Search. Each result shows the number, its location, and a type badge (Local, National, or Mobile), plus an Address required flag where applicable.
- Click Buy on the number you want.
Purchased numbers renew monthly for as long as your Voice add-on is active. How many numbers you can hold depends on your voice tier plus any extra-number add-ons; see the pricing page for the current allowances.
Regulatory registration (KYC)
Many countries require registering the number holder before a number can go live. What you see depends on the country:
- No registration — common for US numbers; you can buy directly.
- Address only — a short form for the number holder's address (with address autocomplete) in the number's country.
- Full registration — a compliance form opens for business details, an address in the number's country, and document uploads (PDF, JPG, or PNG, up to 8 MB each).
Forward an existing number
Prefer to keep your current business line? Use an assistant number and set call forwarding from your existing number to it at your own telephone provider. Rented numbers can't be ported in, so forwarding is the way to route an established number to the assistant.
Connect your own SIP trunk
If you run a PBX or SIP trunk, connect it directly:
| Field | Notes |
|---|---|
| Enable | Turns the SIP connection on |
| Username | SIP authentication user |
| Password | At least 12 characters; stored encrypted |
| Host | Your SIP host |
| Port | SIP port |
| Transport | UDP, TCP, or TLS |
| Caller ID | The number shown as the caller |
After you save, WebChatAgent returns a SIP URI. Point your PBX at that URI to route calls to the assistant.
Manage assigned numbers
Each number attached to a bot can be:
- Copied — grab the number to share or forward to.
- Unassigned — detached from this bot while the rental continues, so you can re-assign it later.
- Released — permanently given up. This can't be undone.
Numbers that belong to your account but aren't attached to a bot show an Assign to this bot button; a number on another bot offers Move to this bot for a one-click switch.
